Tech Bloc Gives Back Laptop Giveaway 💻
We wanted to give a HUGE thank you to Aubrey Doerr, Christine Colburn, Gennaro Maida, Stefan Talevski, Gabriele Falloon, Maricela Resendiz, Travis Runty, Molly Runty, Lamont Sharp, and Albert Carrisalez for their incredible support at Tech Bloc's laptop giveaway on July 26th to Thrive and Haven for Hope where we gave away 130 laptops! Everyone’s efforts in taking headshots, assisting with laptop setups, and leading LinkedIn workshops made a significant impact and helped grow the San Antonio tech ecosystem. Your dedication and hard work are deeply appreciated, and you made this event a remarkable success for all involved. Thank you!
Tech Bloc August Conclave
This last week we had our members August conclave and wanted to thank everyone who attended at the Common Desk in downtown San Antonio! Your participation made the event a remarkable success. What is the Secure Together Summit?
The Secure Together Summit, CyManII’s 2024 Annual Meeting, is a must-attend event that will bring together CyManII members, non-members, key partners, thought leaders, and industry stakeholders. We will discuss our strategic vision, offer collaborative opportunities, present the State of the Institute, and outline a vision for the path forward as we transition into CyManII 2.0.

Summer lab experience at UTSA engages students in STEM, promotes science retention
The UTSA summer lab program engages high school seniors and incoming freshmen in STEM through hands-on research projects. Supported by the nonprofit STEMSTART Enrichment, students work with mentors in UTSA's neuroscience and biology labs. The program aims to improve science retention by providing practical experience, thus making theoretical concepts more comprehensible. This year, nine students participated, including Fatima Majeed, who found the program supportive and beneficial for making friends and understanding science better.

One church, two astronauts. How a Texas congregation is supporting its members on the space station
A Texas church is supporting its two astronaut members currently on the International Space Station. Bob Hines, an astronaut and active member of University Baptist Church (UBC) in Houston, was commissioned for his SpaceX Crew-4 mission in April, with the congregation pledging to support his family during his mission. The church has a history of commissioning astronauts, reflecting its close proximity to NASA's Johnson Space Center and its commitment to community and faith.

THE FUTURE OF TEXAS TRANSPORTATION: IT’S UP IN THE AIR
Port San Antonio hosted the Texas Innovation Invitational from July 29 to 31, showcasing advancements in eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) vehicles. The event, supported by TxDOT and UT Austin, highlighted plans for a vertiport at Kelly Field to improve urban and rural connectivity. The conference also featured innovations in drones, autonomous trucks, and delivery robots, emphasizing the integration of advanced transportation technologies into Texas's infrastructure.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LAUNCH ROCKETS THEY BUILT AT SUMMER CAMP
The San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) hosted a summer camp where middle and high school students learned aerospace fundamentals and built rockets. The camp, concluding with a launch at Port San Antonio, involved coordination with the U.S. Air Force due to proximity to Kelly Field. The event highlighted career opportunities in aerospace, with scholarships available for some students.

Game On: UTSA UC Partnership
We're teaming up with UTSA University College's new game development program to foster the next generation of tech talent. Our first joint event will be in September and feature an industry expert from the Unreal Engine community and a local Microsoft MVP. Stay tuned for more details!
